The Benefits of Coconut Oil for Your Hair

We use 100% Cold-Pressed Coconut Oil in our Vanilla Castor-Coconut Hair Oil. Here are some wonderful things you should know about this wonderful oil courtesy of New Health Guide:

Everyone desires a full and thick head of hair. For thousands of years, coconut oil has found itself among the most popular hair conditioners. By improving hair cuticle and scalp health, coconut oil can actually repair damaged hair. The antifungal properties also help eliminate the need for dandruff shampoos. All of these contribute to hair growth.

Why Can Coconut Oil Help with Hair Growth?

Proper health and hair care go hand-in-hand when it comes to improving hair growth. The use of coconut oil can protect and moisturize the scalp while fostering growth of healthy hair.

1. Shield Hair Protein

Fatty acids bind to the protein in hair and protect both the roots and strands of hair from breakage. Lauric acid is found in coconut oil and has better results than other mineral or sunflower oils when it comes to improving hair health.

2. Seal in Moisture

Moisture is essential for healthy hair and regular and consistent use of coconut oil is a beneficial technique. By penetrating the hair shaft, coconut oil protects against environmental impurities and excess heat.

3. Improve Blood Circulation

A coconut oil scalp massage will effectively improve scalp circulation and boost nutrient and oxygen delivery to your hair.

4. Provide Nutrients

The natural antioxidants and nutrients found in coconut oil will deliver critical resources to improve your hair's softness and luster. Coconut oil is rich in vitamin E, vitamin K and iron and effectively eliminates dandruff while boosting hair growth.

5. Contain Antibacterial and Antifungal Properties

The scalp and hair are high in bacterial content, but coconut oil is an effective remedy to deal with the issue. Coconut oil contains both antifungal and antibacterial properties to protect against dandruff and lice. Both of these potential problems limit hair growth.

How to Use Coconut Oil for Hair Growth

It is critical to avoid additives and impurities that can further impair hair growth. The best solution is to use only organic virgin coconut oil. The top choice is Spectrum Organic Coconut Oil and is the most natural form available. You can find it at most health food stores or a Whole Foods store.

1. Warm the Coconut Oil

Gently rewarm a jar of coconut oil in warm water. It appears solid in the jar, but melts when heated. Avoid using a microwave as it can damage and alter the chemical structure of the oil.

2. Dampen with Warm Water

Use warm water to thoroughly dampen your hair.

3. Spoon Coconut Oil

Take one tablespoon of the warmed coconut oil and place into your hand. Begin to apply to your hair. A good rule of thumb is to use two tablespoons for shoulder length hair and up to four tablespoons for longer hair. Apply the coconut oil directly to the roots of your hair by using your fingertips.

4. Massage the Scalp

Massage for at least three minutes to get the maximum effects while boosting the circulation in your scalp. Don't worry if a few strands of hair fall out, as this is normal during the massage process.

5. Put on Shower Cap

Cover your hair with a shower cap and let the coconut oil work its' magic.

6. Wait

Twenty to thirty minutes is the minimum. If you have the time, leaving the shower cap on overnight will provide the best results.

7. Wash off

Gently rinse with a sulfate and preservative free shampoo. No additional conditioner will be required, as the coconut oil will leave your hair soft and silky.

Let's help you STOP HAIR BREAKING

Hey HoneyVerans!!

Here's an article from Naturally Curly. Let' help you with that breakage problem.

Understanding how and why hair breakage occurs will help us better understand just how to repair our hair and make it healthier. “Hair is a fiber, much like wool,” says Dr. P. Mirmirani, astaff dermatologist at the Permanente Medical Group in Vallejo CA, “it’s bundled together tightly in the middle and protected on the outside by the cuticle.”
The main causes of hair damage come from, of course, the chemicals we apply.
Things like bleaching and color, highlights, perms, chemical straightening and relaxing. These processes make for a weaker cuticle and break down the strength of the hair. They also reduce the amount of sheen and natural oils that help give our hair that healthy looking vibrance.
Styling is also a part of why our hair suffers from breakage. Too many braids, ponytails, brushing, the pulling and tugging on  your hair frequently, can all make for permanent damage. Extensions and weaves will also cause damage.

So how do we save our hair?

For most women, cutting out all of these above processes is impossible. However, we can manage our way back to better, healthier hair by cutting down on the amount of styling. And when you do find it necessary to use heat on your hair, always apply a product to your hair to protect it. If you use extensions, be sure they are not too tight, you do not want to damage your roots.
If you find that your hair is truly damaged, you may have to start over by getting a good, healthy cut and simple hair care routine. Dr Kiran Lohia, MD, says to shampoo at most 2-3 days per week with a sulfate free shampoo--depending on your activity and hair type. Always follow with conditioner, and apply extra to your ends. If you can, air dry, otherwise, use a product to protect your hair from damage. If you use a diffuser, try to dry hair just 20-30% and allow the rest to air dry. Make sure you use a healthy, deep conditioning treatment on your hair and scalp, like coconut or olive oil, at least 2x per week for your locks.

Apple Cider Vinegar is the best Hair Rinse Ever!

Hearing about the wonderful benefits of the Apple Vinegar Rinse, I finally decided to try it fr myself and walla!!! The results were exceptional!

Here are 10 proven effects apple cider vinegar has on hair:

1. It’s a natural conditioner.

Apple cider vinegar can function as a hair conditioner, in the same way as baking soda works as a natural shampoo! Clean and shiny hair, all from ingredients in your kitchen! Who knew?

2. It improves porosity.

Porosity is your hair’s ability to absorb and maintain moisture. Apple cider vinegar’s acidity can improve porosity by sealing the hair cuticle. As a result, hair will maintain more moisture.

3. It combats tangles.

Apple cider vinegar flattens the hair surface, allowing a comb or brush to glide easily through the hair.

4. It treats hair loss.

Truly a hair cure-all, ACV has even been known to stimulate hair growth in some hair loss cases.

5. It can cleanse, too.

When added to the baking soda mentioned in the first tip, apple cider vinegar creates a super-powered hair cleanser.

6. It’s a clarifying treatment …

Apple cider vinegar is perfect for removing product build-up, without stripping hair of its natural oils.

7. … and a pH balancer!

Hair is on the mildly acidic side of the pH scale, and has an ideal pH of 4.5 to 5.5, which is close to that of an apple cider vinegar rinse (pH 2.9). This rinse is great for bringing the pH back to where it’s supposed to be after shampooing.

8. It reduces frizz.

According to Huffington Post, when used as a follow-up to baking soda, this do-it-yourself treatment makes strands shinier, reduces frizz, and seals cuticles.

9. It treats dry, itchy scalps.

Apple cider vinegar has antibacterial and antifungal properties that will calm and heal an itchy, dry scalp.

10. It prevents split ends.

ACV has the ability to smooth the hair’s cuticle, which helps prevent split ends and breakage.

Want to get in on the apple cider vinegar action? Here’s how to make your own apple cider vinegar rinse:

You can add apple cider vinegar to your hair regimen by mixing 1 part ACV into 1 part warm, filtered tap water. Apply the vinegar rinse after shampooing, then rinse it all out, or for extra conditioning, you can leave the rinse on your hair for a minute or two. This natural hair care product can be used

DIY Home Remedies for Dry Damaged Hair

Hey HoneyVerans!

Here are some great home remedies for you:

Repair damage with an avocado

Mash a ripe avocado (pit removed) with one egg, then apply this home remedy to wet hair. Avocados are rich in vitamins, essential fatty acids, and minerals that will help restore luster to your hair, says Stephen Sanna, expert colorist at the Pierre Michel Salon in New York City. Leave on for at least 20 minutes, then rinse several times. Repeat once a week for damaged hair and once a month for healthy hair.

Massage in butter

Try this home remedy: treat dry, brittle hair with a small amount of butter for a glossy shine. Massage it into your dry hair, then cover your hair with a shower cap for about a half hour. Shampoo as usual, and rinse all the butter out.

Condition with olive oil

Put the moisture back into dry hair by warming up 1/2 cup olive oil (do not boil it), and then rubbing it into your hair. Cover tresses with a plastic bag, then wrap everything in a towel. Let this home remedy do its thing for 45 minutes, then shampoo and completely rinse.

Rinse with tea

To give a natural shine to dry hair, use a quart of warm, unsweetened tea (freshly brewed or instant) as a final rinse after your regular shampoo. Tea can enhance hair color, so make sure to use a tea that works with your hair color. Blondes should use chamomile tea; black tea may darken their tresses. Brunettes should use black tea to enhance shine and enrich color.

Whip up an apple cider vinegar mask

Put the life back into your limp or damaged hair with this terrific home remedy: combine 1 teaspoon apple cider vinegar with 2 tablespoons olive oil and 3 egg whites, then rub the mix into your hair. Keep your hair covered for about a half hour using plastic wrap or a shower cap, then shampoo and rinse.

Treat with botanical oils
Olive, jojoba, sweet almond and HONEY VERA'S Vanilla Castor-Coco Hair Oil are all wonderful elixirs for damaged hair. If your hair is thick and heavy, coconut oil works well. Dampen your hair and apply small amounts of the botanical oil until your hair is thoroughly covered. Top off with shower cap and warm towel for about 30 minutes, then rinse and shampoo your hair out.

Condition naturally when swimming

Before the beach or after a swim, protect hair from harsh elements or chemicals with a homemade rinse of 1/4 cup apple cider mixed with 3/4 cup water to help cleanse hair

Wrap wet hair dry

Instead of rubbing your hair after you get it wet, wrap up your damaged hair in a cotton towel, and let the cotton absorb the moisture for a few minutes. This helps protect against further split ends

Let your hair down

If you usually wear your hair in a ponytail, take it out for a few hours a day to give your hair a break. Also, try not to pull hair back too tightly. And never sleep with any sort of accessories in your hair

Eat your omega-3s

Take one to three 250-milligram capsules of borage oil, evening primrose oil, or flaxseed oil one to three times a day. All are rich in omega-3 fatty acids like gamma-linolenic acid, great for keeping hair (and nails) moisturized
